A new study published in the Journal of Pediatric, Maternal & Family Health – Chiropractic reveals that chiropractic care may positively impact both emotional well-being and physical health in pregnant and postpartum women. The study followed 33 women from their third trimester through six weeks postpartum, using validated tools like the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) and PROMIS-29 to monitor changes in mood, pain, fatigue, and quality of life.

Findings showed that chiropractic care was associated with significant improvements in pain interference and physical function, with some women also reporting reduced depression symptoms. The study marks the first use of both the EPDS and PROMIS-29 in chiropractic settings and emphasizes the value of integrating emotional health screening into perinatal chiropractic care.

The research supports a more holistic approach, encouraging chiropractors to track emotional and physical outcomes to better serve women during this vital life stage.
